Sticky Summer Photos with my Boys

I do my best to photograph my kids in every season because they change so very quickly from one to the next. This summer was especially busy but also especially SPECIAL, too! I knew I wanted to do something to commemorate our country's 250th birthday, so between the traveling, summer projects, a wedding, hosting a lot of family and friends from out of state–and, well, you get the idea–I carved out the time to capture this special occasion!

My boys are an endless supply of energy and entertainment and every so often I like to set them loose doing what they do best–making a mess and enjoying it–and I come along for the ride with my camera. The results never disappoint!

I'm purposefully sorting these images chronologically, because I want to be clear I did *not* allow them to eat *and* handle wildlife at once. I love animals but when it comes to my kids eating and holding toads I don't let the two mix because though I am a boy mom I am also still a girl that gets grossed out occasionally.

By coincidence, my boys found both a frog and a toad that morning. They were very preoccupied but it made for some iconic boyhood photos that I will forever cherish of my boys!

And lastly... some sessions beg to be viewed in black and white, and this is one of them! I can't wait to see these in print!

We've lived in Front Royal, VA for going on 2 1/2 years now and have no regrets in moving to the mountain where wild is welcome and we fit right in with the beautiful, unpredictable chaos of nature. We're still close enough to "go into town" without too much of a drive, but our daily living is slow and quiet–just the way we like it. Well, maybe not "quiet" in the literal sense of the word because we do, after all, have a trio of boys! But you get the idea.
